Our story

We wanted to care for our guesthouses well, so we built our own tools

Houses on a steep hill

Starry House sits on a steep hill in Seoul. It is not a place priced by room size or distance to the subway. It offers experiences you can only have there — the panorama of Seoul once you reach the top, the Naksan Park fortress wall trail in the early morning, the mood of the alleys at night when you return from a day of travel.

We wanted one thing: for guests to say "Wow!" the moment they open the door. Not a restaurant that simply fills you up, but a stay worth the trip in itself, like a place you travel to for its flavor.

Operations were one check after another

But when one property became three, our days began to disappear into checking. Opening channel apps to count today’s check-ins, pasting foreign-language messages that arrived at dawn into a translator, setting rates for open dates by gut feeling, and walking up and down the hill in case the air conditioner was still running in a room a guest had just left.

The value of a stay comes from its details, yet the time to care for those details was being pushed aside by checking. We looked at existing tools, but systems built for hotels with hundreds of rooms did not fit the day of a small operation like ours.

So we built it ourselves

Starry Steward did not start as a sales plan. We turned our own routine — the morning check, reviewing incoming bookings, guest communication, on-site checks, rate decisions — directly into the structure of the app. We use it every day, fix what gets in the way, and do not build features we do not need.

What we hand to AI is also "checking." Every morning it reads booking status and writes a report, translates foreign-language messages and prepares reply drafts, and calculates and suggests rates for open dates. Decisions to message guests or change rates are always made by the operator — AI prepares, people review and decide.

Honesty

We have often been the first to suggest cancelling at the booking stage. When chatting through Airbnb messages with guests who might find the steep hill difficult, we have recommended comfortable stays at the bottom of the hill before confirming the booking. We believe the essence of business, before money, is making our guests’ trips happy.
